Am I the only one who noticed that this question gets asked at least 20 times a day... "I like women (or men depending on the sex of the person asking), but I don't know if I'm bi", or something similar???

I mean, why does our society put so much pressure on people that they feel they need to label themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc? I feel so sorry for the people who ask this question, because for the most part you can tell that they truly feel like they have to decide what they are!

Come on guys... just love yourself, and be with who you want to be with! You might not can marry them in every state, but there's no laws stopping you from being yourself!!! And loving yourself!

Thanks... I just had to get that off my chest... lol.

Let me make this clear, so I don't offend anyone- I didn't mean that you shouldn't label yourself, or that you should hide it if you do- I just meant that those who don't know exactly what they are, shouldn't have so much pressure to do so...
Thanks guys... please don't get mad!

I hope someday more people think that way. those arent the only labels though think about how many teens and kids are tagged with add adhd oppositional defiant etc etc and put on pills so their parents dont have to watch granted some kids really do need them but 100 years ago we didnt have these drugs and didnt have alot of problem kids either but now noone is ever there to watch their kids so they put them on the once a day pill popping regime and wonder why they never learn to fit in society. If they could just love their kids instead of labeling them how much better we as a society would be. Those parents taught their kids the need for labels and that is why people feel the need, it is a safety measure. If you can label someone you can say those ----- people not sue or sally down the block which means you can distance yourself and not like them so maybe just maybe people will see you labeling others and think you are just like them and you wont get labeled yourself.

I kind of get what you are getting at, but the problem is this: you are something. Getting rid of a label as "bi-sexual" or "gay" or "straight" isn't going to change that. You either are sexually attracted to people of the same sex, the opposite sex, or both sexes. Having a word for those three things does not make any difference. At least having the word helps people identify what they feel. Without the word, people would still be afraid and confused when they don't understand who they are or how they feel. Getting rid of labels won't change that one bit. It can actually be helpful for some to be able to give it a name! In the end, though, labels are not the problem. Society's negative view on gays and bi-sexuals is what the problem is.

yes I totally agree, other day someone was on about comin out the closset, but I dont think any1 really needs to come out the closset, I mean some people feel they need a label like a diognosis but find when they get it they dont like it like mental health, but in this case sexuality is sexuality and if you feel comfortable you shouldnt have to announce your sexuality, you might not even know your sexuality, this is a free choice i say the more free you are the better, there are already enough labels in the world, you do not get people comin out the closset that they are straight do you?

labels lead to discrimination people assume there is discrimination everywhere, people feel they have to form to types groups idols aspecially when they are younger, you dont have to like anyone concentrate on liking yourself, and being honest with yourself, if you know yourself then dont be too fussed about what others think of you you can be whoever you are whenever you are,

Yeah. Black and white thinking. The idea that if you are not A then you must be B.

Everything is a continuum. I'm nominally male because I have male bits, but my personality and body shape all lie somewhere on the line between male and female. Just like everyone else.

I completely agree with everything you said.
There shouldn't be any pressure into deciding what you are.
Society has made it to where people freak out if they are attracted to the same sex.
I don't see why it has to be like that.
There shouldn't be labels at al.
You are what you are.
you love what you love.
Be happy with what you are.
And what your heart chooses.

I'm proud of what I am, and if someone asks, I want to be able to tell them. It's no big deal. It also makes me feel more secure, in some weird way.

I don't believe in sticking a label on anyone, but I guess this practice has been going on throughout all history in one form or another.

Gay people want to feel a sense of closure.

I'm gay but I don't think it's a big deal.

i agree. you are who you are and i dont see the need of society to put people into specific categories as doing such a thing can lead to prejudice and discrimination against such people
