YES! LOL, great point. I never know what to say when a pro-life guy knocks up his pro-choice casual girlfriend, and then is shocked that she might have an abortion. What on Earth did he expect? People really need to talk to each other a bit more before hopping into bed.
If a guy feels strongly that abortion is murder, he really should be making sure that he never puts a woman into that position. It's funny how they like the casual sex, but all of a sudden want to act like a husband when it suits them. Stick to pro-life girlfriends, and this wouldn't happen.

In a perfect world, abortion wouldn't be an issue because pregnancy would only occur when wanted. Alas this isn't a perfect world.
Ideally, a couple should discuss their views on STDs and pregnancy before they ever have sex, and if the ideologies do not match, they should rethink their making the beast with two backs.
To Rachel, contraception certainly helps reduce the numbers of unplanned pregnancies but they by no means eliminate it as your post suggests. Even with perfect usage, all contraception has a failure rate and not all women can use all forms of it available.
I can honestly say that the few partners I have had, we discussed our views of pregnancy before we had sex. Not a single one of them were prolife, and if they had been, I probably would have had to break things off. I just cannot be with someone that thinks they have a say over my reproduction.

This is a wonderful question! I believe you are right. If all pro-life men would only be intimate with pro-life women, there should never be an issue. Unfortunately, I think they'd still push for abortion to be criminalized. That is just how these religious groups are. Take a look at history:
Prohibition of alcohol: Women's Christian Temperence Movement
Prohibition of Opium: Women's Christian Temperence Movement
Tax Breaks for Churches: American Christian Coalition
2001 and 2003 Tax cuts: American Christian Coalition

In a perfect world, yes. We're talking about people so ignorant that they think a clump of cells appearing as a skinless, mindless pseudo-human form is the same thing as an infant. They can't even get their own scriptures straight, insisting that the bible condemns abortion, when in fact it does quite the opposite. ( In Leviticus, God tells Moses what a human life is worth according to age, ability, etc. Babies are worth no money at all until they are nearly two months old).
These people have issues that go much deeper than communication. They are impulsive, animalistic ignoramuses. Now you expect them to make a rational, cognizant choice before they act? You give them far too much credit, my dear.

People should talk about these things...but they don't. It's just poor planning on thier part. Perhaps a better solution is for all couples, pro-life and pro-choice, to start actively using contraception...then the issue won't ever arise.

Isn't "Marriage" (or engagements) where this conversation arises (no pun intended ;o)?
I guess in a society were birth control makes sex an 'obligation' for many addicted to it; that sometimes common sense goes out the window. During dating many are accustomed to thinking in "X" amount of dates, we should have sex.
Public schools teach kids how to use "Medicine to medicate their sexuality", and how the body works scientifically. However, the morals, values, and etiquette of dealing with sex (& unplanned pregnancy) aren’t dealt with. Even when parents talk about it, well, society seems to have a way to erase the wisdom good parents share (erased by magazines, TV, internet, & peer presure).
South Park did a frightening and wonderful show about how many Public School teachers deal with "Sex Education" ... my "Choaks" of laughter in this episode were not from being "Funny" but rather choaks of laughter on how “Messed - Up“ sexual education really is.
~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Miss Choksondik: You think that sex is about fun and games and love? Wrong! Sex is about disease.
--- ---
Sharon: Stanley, what the hell are you doing!?
Stan: I'm beating off the dog. Red rocket, red rocket! [everyone is shocked]
Sharon: Stanley, go to your room, right now!
Stan: My room? Why?
Sharon: Go, Stanley! [chuckles nervously] He gets very good grades.
[later, in Stan's room]
Sharon: Stanley, do you know why you're being grounded for ten months?
Stan: No.
Randy: Beating off the dog is not appropriate when we have company. [Sharon looks at him] Uh, I mean ever. Beating off the dog is not appropriate ever.
Check out the plot & see the episode if you dare.
You bring up a very good point. You should be very serious in your relationships. I think things like birth control should be talked about before you have sex with anyone.
Hey, that's not a bad idea. Someone should start up pro-choice and anti-choice (I refuse to say pro-life) dating services.
That's a very sensible idea. Unfortunately, people who are pro-life also think that they have the right to tell peoploe what is wrong and what is right, even if it is allowed by the law.
yes that's definitevely the wise thing to do. The problem is, people don't really talk about it until they have to face with a pregnancy. People should obviously share their thoughts about pregnancies, as well as STDs, before they even start having sex.
That way they won't have the ""need"" to use abortion as birth control.
