You cease the expectation of the result you were looking for.

just lower you expectations, never give up on faith. Faith of a better tomorrow is what helps us raise our children so maybe they can go out and help to change the world in some way. No matter how much dissapointment you have seen, there is always somthing brighter ahead, even if it is just as small as someone giving a word of encouragement and a smile. Can you really tell me when you start you day in a bad mood and then someone comes up to you with a beautiful smile and says hello that it does not in the least make you feel better? Faith that the day will be better. Never give it on it.

I am going to guess it is about a girl. But I guess you can relate this to anything.

You had a great quest, you pledged to see it though to the end. You did. We like to say "victory or death", but it doesn't always work that way.

Imagine that you were a knight trying to save a captured city. But when yo got there, the battle was over. The drawbridge was up, the walls were sealed.

What are you supposed to do? Wander around the city for the rest of your life? A times comes when you have to get on your horse and ride home.

You did the best you could. It's time to ride home.

Best luck in your new life.

Joe

That's a contradiction in terms. I think you need a new definition of "faith" if you are referring to it as "a faith".

The Bible defines faith: "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Heb 11:1 (New International Version)

There are two components to that definition, 1) being certain of what we want, 2) having hope that even though we do not see it, it's possible, indeed, it already exists.

In a 1941 speech, Winston Churchill said, "Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

Without his faith, his unwavering vision AND his hope for the outcome, would the Allies still have won the war?

I'm a baby boomer. When I was 19, I believed that I could help change the world. Today... I see that I can change only myself. The effect that I have on others is to be the best person I can be today; to be kind, to be thoughtful and loving, to treat others as I should myself like to be treated....or better. I could die today, knowing that I've been doing the best I can... but sure do love the sunrise! Hugs, Gina C.

I just stopped going to the church after realizing it was pretty much going to be the same routine every Sunday. I'll still say hello and be polite at the annual Town Day, but that's it.

Besides, I made a horrible Christian. Sort of like when a pro wrestler has to work a bad gimmick.

Something like what? The Big Pumpkin? Well, Halloween comes and he doesn't, you figure you've been had.

Santa? Eventually, you see what's happening and, if you're lucky, you get to be part of continuing the tradition.

Love? You see folks around you who seem to have it, and lots who do for a bit and then crash in misery. You go on hoping that with practice you'll get it right.

Heaven? No one knows that it's not happening. Pascal, I think, had an answer for that.

Just like that. You give it up, and move on. It's not always easy-- hell, it's not ever easy-- but you do it, anyway. Because if you are asking "how", you already know that you need to do it, which means that deep down, you've already started the process. So, let it go.

I just gave it up. I said, 'that's a load of crap' and moved on. I don't know what to tell you. You just realize what you believe isn't right and find something else to put faith in.

if there's something that id like to happen and it was not given, i find it hard giving it up. but i do put faith in God and to myself that i can move on. and try new things. im sure you dont want to stay burnt out on a "happen" that it wasnt given to you.

by seeing that it's not gonna happen, you really are starting the process of giving up. it's tough, but you just accept it and move on to the next thing.
