hi. im interested in majoring in public relations but i'v found that more schools offer majors in advertising than public relations. I'm wondering if it is a better idea to stick with a school that offers public relations since that is what I'm most interested in or if it woudl be safe to choose and advertising major since this major covers aspects public relations. hope that makes sence. thanks!

Go with Public Relations, and plan on graduate school. BA degrees in either field might not support a good career well into the future. Times are changing.

Human Resources typically deals more with employment and overhead at a company, meaning that you will spend a large amount of your time dealing with interviewing potential employees, handling payroll and related deductions (like taxes, healthcare, etc). Human Resources typically also handles inter-office issues between employees. In essence, you are everyone's "mom" in the company that they can come and talk to. It is mostly an INTERNAL position. Public Relations is an EXTERNAL position. You spend most of your time enhancing the image of the company and handling media requests. You may go to a lot of news conferences, banquets, and other marketing engagements to speak on behalf of the company.

I would go to a school that offers both majors... You don't want to settle for second best, or get through your first semester only to realize that you hate your advertising major.

i say stick with what you want to do. penn state has a HUGE communications dept. pub relations is one of the many things they cover. you should consider a school that has a similarly vast communications program just to you can have everything covered
