Whenever I turn on my computer (It's a kinda modern PC with Microsoft XP), my hard drive makes this weird noise, and then the screen comes up with all this stuff I don't understand. And at the bottom, it says SYSTEM BOOT FAILURE. And below it, it says, Insert Atapi CD-ROM and then press ENTER. I can't get on my computer and it's really frustrating! What do I do??

Do you happen to have a cd in the drive when you start your computer?

If that isn't the case then you may have to perform a clean install

Make sure you don't have any disks in your floppy or cd drive.
Sounds like your hard-drive could be disconnected or your BIOS (basic operating system that boots your computer up to XP) is corrupted. This Atapi cd could contain files your computer needs to repair itself, do you have it, it may have come with your restore discs. If that fails and even a friend with computer skills can't figure it out, call customer support for your model of computer or find those restore discs and hope you backed up any pertinant info on to a cd disc.

Sounds like your hard drive crashed. So your computer is trying to boot into Windows from a CD since the hard drive doesn't work. If the hard drive is making a weird noise and it won't boot into Windows it is probably toast.

I would replace the hard drive and reinstall Windows. A shop maybe able to get all your files off of the damaged hard drive if it isn't damaged too bad.

it could be a problem with the ram (memory). If the computer is giving you beep codes, then open it up (or have a computer specialist open it up) and try to make sure everything is in correctly. If it all is in right, then in might be a problem with your bios (basic input output system). if thats the case....then you need to go into bios and configure it to work correctly depending on your issue. what is happening right now is that your post (power on self test) is telling you that something is wrong.
For a quick solution if the problem is your post....then listin to the beep code and chck the manufactures website for what that beep code means.

It does not sound good to put it bluntly. If your hard drive was making noise - I suspect we are looking at hard drive failure.
Perhaps you know someone who is tech savvy that could help you install another hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Your hard drive had just died. You need to get a new one...you have probably lost all of your files too. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but that's what happened...especially if your hard drive is clicking.
