The average IQ in the United States is usually set at 100. Groups within the US score different average IQ's, such as 115 for college grads or 85 for African-Americans. Similarly, average IQ varies from country to country, shown in the 2002 book IQ and the Wealth of Nations (sets Britain at 100):
Hong Kong 107 Korea, South 106 Japan 105 Taiwan 104 Singapore 104 Austria 102 Germany 102 Italy 102 Netherlands 102 Sweden 101 Switzerland 101 Belgium 100 China 100 New Zealand 100 U. Kingdom 100 Hungary 99 Poland 99 Australia 98 Denmark 98 France 98 Norway 98 United States 98 Canada 97 Czech Republic 97 Finland 97 Spain 97 Argentina 96 Russia 96 Slovakia 96 Uruguay 96 Portugal 95 Slovenia 95 Israel 94 Romania 94 Bulgaria 93 Ireland 93 Greece 92 Malaysia 92 Thailand 91 Croatia 90 Peru 90 Turkey 90 Colombia 89 Indonesia 89 Suriname 89 Brazil 87 Iraq 87 Mexico 87 Samoa (Western) 87 Tonga 87 Lebanon 86 Philippines 86 Cuba 85 Morocco 85 Fiji 84 Iran 84 Marshall Islands 84 Puerto Rico 84 Egypt 83 India 81 Ecuador 80 Guatemala 79 Barbados 78 Nepal 78 Qatar 78 Zambia 77 Congo (Brazz) 73 Uganda 73 Jamaica 72 Kenya 72 South Africa 72 Sudan 72 Tanzania 72 Ghana 71 Nigeria 67 Guinea 66 Zimbabwe 66 Congo (Zaire) 65 Sierra Leone 64 Ethiopia 63 Equatorial Guinea 59

All an IQ test result tells you is your ability to perform within an IQ test - it is not a test of intelligence. These were started in the early 20th century when it was believed that intelligence levels remain the same throughout your life and this is simply untrue. Just like any other form of test people can practice test style questions and improve. Also questions are phrased in such a way that they alienate some sections of the population. Therefore, I find another response (regarding Afro American results in the US) quite offensive as it implies this has something to do with intelligence whereas it is more to do with class and background - even vocabulary and experience.
Your IQ score tells us nothing about your intelligence. What about common sense, general knowledge and an ability to communicate effectively?

It's high average. It's not really all that high.
I have the same IQ score.
About 15% of the population in the U.S. is smarter than you.
You just may not have great people skills and that is why people think you are "dumb". Watch the really popular kids closely and see what exactly they do and how they handle situations so that you can copy them. That way, even though you may not naturally have good people skills, you can learn the best way to handle people! It's what I do.
Oh, I like the answer above about good judgment. You probably are not thinking and are rushing into things without thinking and that is why people are calling you dumb. Just slow down and think before you act and that should improve.

118 IQ is above average. 85 to 115 is average. Some say 90 to 110 is average. However, remember, there is really no such thing as "intelligence". Intelligence is just a word we give to a number of attributes that are important to our society. There are multiple intelligences. Look up "multiple intelligences" on the internet.

Average is about 100.In my Mensa test I got 136 which means I am 'gifted'. Personally I think it's because I knew many of the answers to the questions. If you're 118 that is pretty good.

118 is slightly above average, so you arent stupid. But having a decent IQ doesnt mean youre necessarily making good decisions all the time. So you need to use a bit of common sense when it comes to decision making as well.

Some people will call anyone stupid who disagrees with them, regardless of actual IQ.
With time, experience, and maturity, you may improve your social skills and decision making skills. If you are 18, you could experiment to improve your social skills by taking a job in sales. With each attempt to sell, you will learn more about how to affect people positively or negatively. Also, remember the golden rule, do to others as you would want them to do to you.
