I like writing very much, and I would like to start this as a hobby, or maybe a part-time job, but I do not know how to start. I think I would like to write articles or short stories for magazines or newpapers, what should I do? Are there anyone who are already doing this?? Should I just mail my articles to their address?? Please help!

The first step to writing is to write. Don't pay the slightest bit of attention to what you will do after that, write first and publish later. If you aren't writing, then you aren't a writer.

Once you have something you believe is publishable, then find a publisher. There are several literary journals out there for you to be published in (Analog, Asimov, Science Fiction and Fantasy are all good journals, but difficult to get into). There are even some journals dedicated to emerging talent. Your best bet then is to get familiar with whatever journals are in your field of writing and choose one best suited (based on what they have published in the past). Submission information is usually included in the journals.

If it's just as a hobby, just start writing, but keep in mind you're probably not going to show it to anyone. If it's as a hobby to bring in a little extra money, or a part time job, try checking out the links below.

To "break into the business" you need to have a portfolio. Sit down and write up stories, articles, essays, whatever that will be impressive. Come up with a good layout for your portfolio and start mailing it to publishers, news stations, agents, or whomever you'd most like working for. If you're contemplating starting before you'll have time to write up a whole portfolio you can write one or two magazine articles and mail them around seeing who picks them up. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

You can review books on writing from your local library. there are books for every writing style. You need to know the basics for the area you are going to write in. Do a bit of studying before sending anything out. Find out what the publishers are looking for as well.

I did freelance copy writing for a few years. It's not easy, but can be very fun.
