ok so basically im at my aunts in france. She has Orange internet service and its dsl. theres a modem and it connects from one way to the telephone jack to get internet. the other side it has ethernet ports and one ethernet wire is connected to her pc and the other one connects to the wifi router into its wlan jack so internet can get to the router.

All her pcs and my psp recognize the wifi netgear router and it has 100% signal on them. When i try to connect to the internet through wifi with their other pcs it says connected but wont load any website. when i try to get online from wifi on my psp it says it obtained an ip then it wont load any websites and says dns error the server cant be found for any site i type. Whats wrong here?

ok, the dsl/router configuration doesnt seem right..

it should look like this (without pics)

phone line into the DSL modem...

DSL modem into the router 's WAN ethernet port

router to the main PC via one of the regular ethernet jacks

that should let everyone get online w/o any problems

Lets summaryze and then go forward

1. There is a DSL Internet feed.
2. There is a modem with at least 2 LAN ports built in. This suggests the modem is a modem / router combination and I will call this mrtr hereinafter.
3. There is a wireless router (I will call wrtr hereinafter). It has a WAN port and at least 1 wireless LAN port. (Thereis no wlan port so I presume this is an error.)
4. You are able to get LAN IP addresses from the wireless router.
5. You cannot get any internet signal, wired or wireless from the wrtr.
6. You can get internet signal from the pc plugged into the wired port of the mrtr.

If all the above is correct, we may have a subnet issue.

I presume the mrtr is assigning lan IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet (meaning IP addresses are 192.168.1.x where x is any number from 1 - 255; subneet mask is 255.255.255.0. This is a common LAN IP subnet.

I suspect the wrtr has DHCP enabled and it assigns lan IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet as well. This means it is fed an IP in the same subnet it also feeds out to its LAN. This creates confusion.

Here are ways to fix it:

1. Go into the wtr and turn off DHCP and let the mrtr assign all DHCP so you do not have a confilct. This should do the job easily. Use a wired cable to the wtr. You will loose connection when you turn off DHCP. Reboot pc and you should get LAN IP from mrtr.

OR

2. Change the wtr LAN IP to a new subnet. I would use the 192.168.2.0/24 subnet; this makes the wtr private side IP 192.168.2.1, subnet 255.255.255.0; all downstream devices will get DHCP fed IP addresses in the form 192.168.2.x with x between 2 and 255. To do this use a WIRED connection into the LAN port of wtr. When you change the subnet to 192.168.2.0/24 you will be disconnected because your pc will be in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet and you will have to reboot your pc to get back in and then change the DHCP setting.

Be sure to save your configuration on the router when done.

OK so I'm assuming your getting a
"connected but limited connectivty" ???

You can see the router but not getting through the router...
99% of the time this is a WEP issue... Some where either on the router or in the router there is a WEP KEY listed.

When connecting you'll need to enter the WEP key..

PSP has a selection for WEP

hardwiring does not need the WEP so hardwiring is easy..

anywho hope this helps

Try unplugging EVERYTHING, computer router and all then get everything set up again.
if it happens again then the wifi singal transmitter ((router)) probably has a built in firewall and you would have to go to the network setting or router settings and look for something similar to internet access or like firewalls or anything that would permit or disallow tasks
if its not that look at the my network places again and look at the properties under that network or wifi network and see if i has anything simmilar to that, that would not allow you to do stuff.
if its not that then maybe you need to simply look if it has a password on the connection ((which it should be since of course its giving u an IP)) but then u know what to do.
IF NOTHING else then it could be that you memory card is low in ur psp so it won't let u go to places.
other then that idk

ALL the machines must connect to the router, the router must then connect to the line, or to the modem depending on it's type. You should ensure the dhcp on the router is active, and set encryption for the wireless.

Try plugging the modem only into the router (not to the computer)...and then plug her computer into the router and see if it works.
