I just moved, and when I plugged my monitor in, the color was uneven. The left part of the screen is grayscale, and it gradually fades into full color on the right.
Ideas on how to fix this, what to check, or if it can be fixed? The monitor is a Dell, about five years ago (the old bulky type, not flat panel). Thanks.

Degausing is what you need. Some monitors don't have a degause (spelling?) but you can accomplish the same thing with a magnet.

Get a magnet (not one of those tiny super power magnets either, a refrigerator magnet will do) and sweep it across the monitor screen. As you sweep, you'll see the colors get smeared out. continue moving the magnet back & fourth and then slowly ease it further away from the screen until the effects of the magnet dissapate.

You should have your colors back again.

Always be careful using magnets around computers!

Sounds like you packed it next to something magnetic. Speakers maybe?
Degaussing is the only thing you can try. If your monitor has this function built in, use it. If not, any competent tech shop, or maybe a friend, has one.

Try going to your Menu and selecting the colors, brightness, and all other things. Play around with it. Or, I would try first is going to the Menu and selecting Degauss.
