Most water is treated before being sent back into rivers or wherever it is released. Rainwater picks up oil and other contaminates before going down the storm sewers. If not treated, all the lakes, streams and rivers would be contaminated.

In our city, our sewer drain charge is based on the amount of water that your water meter shows that you use, but if you wash your automobile or water your lawn, you are still charged a sewage fee for that water.

Rainwater has to be channelled away
Look at Sheffield where the system occasionally gets overloaded, most of us do no have that problem because it is done for us. All that infrastructure needs maintaining, improving and as we tarmac more of our country, building.

If you collect the water from your gutters or it goes into a soakaway as opposed into the sewer system then you won't pay the surface discharge amount to the water board.

Water companies treat the water, adding flouride, and see that it is fit to consume. Other wise, it would have animal waste and roadkill in it. It is a pain to pay for what God gives us for free.

My sentiments exactly!!! I hate every 6 months paying for my water bill. God did not mean for us to PAY for water. It's ridiculous.
