Private industry (fed-ex, etc) took over the mail industry 40 years ago and the nation does not NEED a US Post office but, the US "does need" many other things like health care or a US television network to eliminate the need to take lobbyist money and feed the corruption for those running for office. Whatcha think?

The US does need a postal service, because mail delivery should be free. BUT I also see the advantage of getting rid of the postal service because that would reduce junk mail...at least I'd hope it would. The disadvantage would be that those few companies....FedEx, UPS, etc., aren't really competition for each other. Like I've said in other posts, having ten companies control ALL of the auto industry or cell phone providers or cable networks is NOT competition. The USPS right now is providing a service for all US taxpayers at a reasonable rate. If the USPS is shut down, God only knows what those other companies will charge us for their services. I do think investing in Health Care is a great idea. The US government already OWNS the airwaves but due to lobbying, they pretty much gave them away to the big corporate broadcasters for NOTHING. Check out Ralph Nader's book "Cutting Corporate Welfare" and read the awful truth for yourselves. A government owned broadcasting channel WOULD reduce the need for lobbyists money, but so would ending Corporate Welfare. If there was no money to be given to corporations, they'd have no need to lobby our politicians. Corporations make enough money on their own. In fiscal year 2006, they were given 92 BILLION dollars of tax payer money. Why? Why couldn't THAT money go to HealthCare, to sure up Social Security, investing in small businesses, investing in research and development of clean, renewable energy and breaking our dependence on foreign oil? Why are these corporate GIANTS being supported on the backs of the hardworking, American people?

Maybe you should look up some post office facts before you babble. The post offices PAYS for itself, What does the USPS have to do with not having other things.
