I mean, not that they didn't happen. But are they asscociated with the political event that they're talking about or just some video grabbed off the shelves and shown just to get us riled up?

yes, because most of them show people burning an old tattered flag, that probably should be burned anyway according to the flag code.
There is usually no sound, so you have no clue what the people are saying. The people presenting the clips could be saying the purpose is for anything.
many flag burings are held as protest of what politicians are doing to this country. The people burning the flags, in some cases are true patriots, that feel that American Ideals are being soiled by the federal government. Since the American flag is the symbol of American ideals, what better way to get the message across, that we need to keep a better eye on our government?
That is the power of symbolism, it can be interpretted any many different ways, and you don't know which, if you don't hear the person committing the act speak.
