Looking at where this group is now (Palestine, Illinois, on the Indiana border) there's a possibility they may be coming through here this weekend to picket the funeral of a local fallen soldier. I have no connection with this soldier or his family, but I am grateful for his sacrifice.

If you were me, would you go to this soldier's visitation/wake?

If the WBC goons show up, what would be an appropriate response?

Is there an active protest group that watches the WBC and tries to block them from doing their stuff?

It's a shame what they do. Many people in mourning at funerals of soldiers, for example, don't normally want to try to start anything physical with the WBC due to the circumstances. It is their right to protest, and I definitely don't agree with what they're doing, but they'll just keep doing it.

One thing that a town did to keep them from protesting a funeral (I think it was at Virginia Tech), a local disc jockey offered time on the air to interview Phelps in exchange for the WBC promising to not show up and protest the funerals. Phelps accepted.

If anything, I would say that any town should make an arrangement for them to spread their word through another medium in exchange for a promise from Phelps to not protest any funerals. I'm not sure if you have those kind of resources, but your town council might.

As for an active protest group that watches the WBC and tries to block them? Try 99.999% of the American public.

I would not attend the funeral of someone I do not know.

I would leave the funeral for those who knew him. You could donate to charity on his behalf. The may a preferred charity on the obituary.

I would ignore Phelps and his goons. Do not EVER give such people an audience that is what they want.

You didn't hear this from me, but I would go get a nice BB gun or paintball gun and find a spot with a nice view of the protesters. At that point, see how many eyes you can shoot out.

i hate them and i would probably fight them with my fists or grab a gun and shoot up in the air and threaten them. that is the low path however lol, i would try to take the high path and ignore them because they are just rediculous. no one likes thme anyways, almost all of the members in his cult are his family members. they're all brainwashed lunatics. you have to think for a second. free speech and tolerance. since they want to abolish that and we want to preserve it it would be hypocritical to take away their rights. the phrase "tolerance does not include tolerating intolerance" is false. tolerance is that and more and never forget that.

p.s: to be realistic though, i'd fight them even though i'd feel like an idiot afterwards

Hire a septic tank company todrive by and spray them all with the sewage.
Are they protesting all soldiers or just the ones who are gay or what?
God'll get 'em sooner or later!
