They have lost me, and after 34yrs of watching I can truely say there are no sane characters left, no great families or dignity to the soap. The chacters of Kay and Victor are all that are left untouched. They made the rest psycho, or fired them. Its a bunch of tweenies now and bed musical chairs weekly.

It's 34 years later of course things will change. Need to cater to a younger crowd now. In order to keep the ratings up they need sex, lies & scandal.

well, I'm not even 34 years old, but I have seen change and change can be good.

you have to give them credit for allowing the older characters to have good story lines, power and lives! a lot of soaps just tuck the old people away and don't mention them, Victor is still very much a player and Katherine holds a lot of cards in Genoa City, she's no joke. Even Jill and Gloria still look good, have sex lives and have great stories.

If you look at some of the other soaps, I think you'll find that Y&R still has the best show for anyone older. Don't even think about General Hospital or DOOL, those are nothing but 20 y/o sex pots and trampy stupid scandals.

My grandfather has watched the show since the day it has started and loves it more as the years go on. I was actually named after Ashley Abbott. My whole family are absolutly addicted. We always eat between 4 and 4:30 so we can watch the episode together between 4:30 - 5:30. To be honest things eventually need to change and cater to the younger generation. My grandfather who will be 80 July 22nd keeps telling me it makes/keeps him feeling younger and in the loop. LOL

don't give up. Like you, I have watched since the Brooks and the Fosters. (what is with the similar names with that and bb) anyway, I have dealt with a lot of crap on that show. It is like a family and right now the wrong person is taking the helm over...if Amber would go back to BB then that would be a start...but anyway...
I am sad at the state of the current soaps. AMC has disappointed me the most with the stupid storylines and passions...oh my goodness...
Write to the new head writer. I was liking a lot of the storylines but some of them suck...

I am 27 and have been watching since I was a little girl with my grandmother...I have to disagree I am loving the storyline. I think that there is always the same element but as stated before they have to keep up with an ever changing audience and shock people. If they want to keep it fresh they have to change they can't just keep doing the same thing the same way. The one thing about Y&R s that it always throws you for a loop. I love it.

I've only been watching Y&R for maybe about 8 or 9 yrs. I'm back and forth with the current storyline. Some of it I love (the whole memory loss with Nick, him not liking Phyllis), but others I hate (Gloria never having to pay for her crimes; and the Daniel porn/lying situation). There's definitely some room for the writers to improve.

Been watching Y&R since early 70`s and enjoy it.Sometimes they get on a story line and really drag it out.Still like it and B&B.Jeannie Cooper (Kay) is the best.

They have new writer and I don't like the direction she is taking it. Hopefully they will get back to the original concept and characters. I like the new twist of Nick not remembering about Phyllis painful that he doesn't remember about Cassie
