No. A blue gourami needs a filtered and heated tank of at least 15 gallons, 20 is far better.

They HAVE to have air bubbles or they will die. The rule of thumb is an inch of fish per gallon. So eventually the 2.5 will be too small. If you are looking for a temporary thing until you get a bigger tank and the gourami is a wee baby, then it will be ok for a lil while but it definatley needs bubbles. You can go to WalMart and get the pump, tubing and an air stone for under 10 bucks. Gouramis also need tank mates. For this specific fish you really need a 20gal or more and it really needs to have other gouramis -usually a set of three to really be happy. By happy I mean that if they are unhappy they become agressive or can even get sick. Just like us, if we get upset or stressed our immune system shuts down and we get sick. Same principal. Don't give them tank mates that are smaller then their mouth as they will become food, lol.
If you have a 2.5 tank and want a fish to put in it - bettas are good, but even a betta should be in a larger tank with other fish to be humane. Really good fish for that size tank would be tetras -these are schooling fish so you need to buy more than three-(their are all kinds of tetras-neon, headlight, taillight, glolight, etc) or maybe two mollys or platys. Then you need a cleaning crew and for that size tank you could get ghost shrimp or corys. All these fish don't get very big and so they can be in a lil tank. Regardless... they all need air bubbles. I don't know why they sell tanks without the air stuff. Even gold fish really need bubbles. As a side note... those cute lil goldfish that they sell at the chain stores (petco, petsmart, walmart)-- they need a 20gal tank after about 6mo to a yr or they have problems with their bone structure and can become disfigured and can cause them pain.
Bottom line is that if you are looking to maintain the 2.5 gal... I would go with much smaller fish. Dwarf Gouramis (I am assuming you have a dwarf gourami as those seem most popular at the stores) can reach four inches and a 2.5 gal tank is way to small for that. If you decide to keep your gourami... the 2.5 WITH bubbles will be fine for a couple months but you really need to go grab a 20gal and move him and give him tank buddies. Feeding them krill is also suggested.. it can bring out their coloring beautifully.
I hope this helped! Good Luck!!

A single 'neon blue' male DWARF gourami would probably be okay in this tank with maybe a small corydoras cat or clown pleco for company. "Blue" gouramis, as the others have mentioned, are a species that grows too large for this tank. This tank is also suitable for a Betta OR maybe a few neons OR zebra danios.

PS: If you don't wish to buy a separate air stone just leave the water level an inch or so below the filter overflow. This will create bubbles

no, the tank is way to small for a gourami

Here is a site with all the requirements for a gourami
http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile30.html

He will die in no time in that small tank

Get a betta for your tank or

*3-4 neons
*2 zebra danios
*2-3 micky mouse platies

hope that helped

Good luck

blue gouramis grow to about 5" -- its not a good match. they need more space.

you could put a couple sparkling gouramis in 2 1/2 gallons if you give them lots of plants.

in a 5 gallon you could put a blue dwarf gourami without any problems.

Thats just cruel to put a gourmai in a 2.5 galon. Get a betta instead.

Yes I would invest in a small air pump so it can have oxygen to survive.
