It always sticks in my mind that in the 60s and 70s people would have mass protests and one outstanding leader would speak on the behalf of the people. I remember reading about riots in the street over excessive taxation, outstanding laws, or the vietnam war, etc..... Do you think anyone cares about what is going on with government, oil companies, taxation, etc...if it doesn't affect people directly? Do you know people that are passionate enough to make stand for the benefit of you to make your world a better place? Are we letting our children down or is there only a different mindset between then and now?

I am a child of this generation and I am in full agreeance with you. Unfortunately people care but not enough or they are too afraid to do anything about it. My generation depresses the crap out of me with their apathy and complete lack of courage. At least someone out there shares some views with me.

Oh and by the way Vinster it's called THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT!

So you think going back to rioting is going to be a positive development. OK then.

Keep in mind that those in the 60's and 70's were also caught up in massive drug use and were easily inspired by idealistic music and people who had no real power except through their followers and message.

Rioting is a last resort response to a situation. In the 60's it made sense, their was a draft, women were trying to gain rights, blacks were trying to gain rights. Politics was not going to cater to them unless they made themselves a force.

Times today are not so bad that this course of action is necessary.

no, it doesn't irritate me.. we are just the counter-culture reaction to the generation before us.. it's a normal human trend and will continue to the end of time.. they went overboard one way in the 60's and 70's.. the 80's and 90's just got weird because of it.. now the 00's and the 10's are the reaction to that... by the 20's it will all change again as a reaction to our lack of reaction. it should be an interesting time.

Those people were lazy bums who did not make America better by working and producing. Just because they were loudmouths is meaningless. What exactly did they accomplish?

.. the movements that you are referring to left many alienated and disillusioned

and for the most part I don't think people care...we work to much to pay our bills who has time for political activism that is in itself agenda driven rhetoric
