Anything from the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, such as The Vampire LeStat, Interview with the Vampire, etc....

The World of Darkness fiction novels from White Wolf are my favorite, they really let you get into the characters instead of lumping them into Vampire stereotypes.

So far there are 3 books, awating the 4th. All are written by different authors but keep the same setting and characters.

A Hunger Like Fire (Vampire: The Requiem Novel #1)
Blood In, Blood Out (Vampire: The Requiem Novel #2)
Marriage of Virtue & Viciousness (Vampire: The Requiem Novel #3)

Here are some of the best vampire works I have read:
Dracula by Bram Stoker
Mina by Marie Kiraly
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles
Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series about a witch who is a bounty hunter and works with a vampire and a pixie
Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Norville series about a werewolf radio talk show host
Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden series about a wizard private investigator in Chicago
Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series

For Young Adults:
Sweetblood by Pete Hautman
Midnight's Choice by Kate Thompson, part of a trilogy that begins with “Switchers” and ends with “Wild Blood”
Companions of the night by Vivian Vande Velde

If you just want to kill some time and have some fun reverting back to childhood, check out The Bailey School Kids series by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones. The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris is wonderful. I've read all seven books, and I am anticipating the 8th. It involves vampires and werewolves and a whole lotta other weird creatures like that.

Some other books that I thought were good...

Lost Souls-Poppy Z. Brite
Salem's Lot-Stephen King
The Historian-Elizabeth Kostova
Night Embrace-Sherrilyn Kenyon
Twilight and New Moon-Stephenie Meyer
The Vampire's Kiss-Cynthia Eden
Demon in my View, In the Forests of the Night, Shattered Mirror, and Midnight Predator by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Touch the Dark and Claimed by Shadows-Karen Chance
Glass Houses and The Dead Girl's Dance-Rachel Caine
Companions of the Night-Vivian Vande Velde
The Silver Kiss-Annette Curtis Klause

The Queen Betsy series by Mary Janice Dickinson
The Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamiltion
The Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison
Women of the Otherworld series by Kelly Armstrong (invovles witches and vampires, stuff like that)

And of course there is Anne Rice.

And if you're still looking for more, there is also always amazon.com. Just type in vampire books, and a crapload of stuff pops up.

Good Luck!

I just finished reading "Interview With The Vampire" by Anne Rice. It was pretty good. Sometimes it's confusing because the whole thing is written as the vampire talking. There's a lot of quotation marks to keep track of who's speaking. It's not scary, per se, but it is thrilling at times. Overall it was a good book. Plus, the story continues through 4 or 5 more books. :)

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice (Interview with a Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned....) and Bram Stokers Dracula are the best.

Well, for a classic, go with Bram Stoker's Dracula.

For excellent, but obscure, try Those Who Hunt the Night by Barbara Hambly or Yarrow by Charles de Lint.

Ooohhh.....this could take a while

The original classic "Dracula"
Samen's Lot
The entire Anne Rice series
The Lair of the White Worm..there is vamp-ism in it
Camilla
The Making of a Monster *I forgot who wrote it, but it was her first book and she also was a musician..can't remeber her name*

And I also just recently got hooked on Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series..how I missed her work is anyone's guess..she's BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!
I highly recommened her. Her work is a perfect blend of drama, humor, horror, and vampire erotica also. The books aren't like porno or anything, but the sex scenes are HOT!

You may like Anne Rice, but I personally couldn't stand her writing style. My favorite vampire novel might be 'Sunshine' by Robin McKinley. It was awesome!
Also, Twilight and New Moon are pretty good.
