Yeah, lesbians balance it out in the same way for women. Looking at it from this perspective I wonder why there are still hate crimes against gays.

It's usually guys who go out gaybashing, so I think if they saw it from the perspective that these gay men are out of the competition for women, they would think differently about them.

No. Competition always produces the best results, so less competition is in fact a bad thing. But women still consider gay men when selecting a mate. For example, many straight men feel the need to live up to the grooming routines of gay men now just to seem normal.
More than ever before straight men are going tanning, getting manicures, using fancy hair & skin products. They still want to look good in a crowd, and it can be difficult if there are many gay people in that crowd.
So in that sense I think they are for sure a benefit to society. But that is just one tiny facet of all the wonderfulness they can bring to everything.

No. I don't think so. There is an interesting article in june2007 DIscover magazine that talks about a "possible gay inherited scenerio" whereby at woman who has homosexual children is more apt to have more total children. This implies that the same gene that causes homosexuality..also causes a higher birth rate in women. I don't know whether this is true or not---but it is an interesting possibility that explains the continuance of gay people. After all, we really do not procreate much on our own. I believe the article is entitled 'Is there a gay gene'....worthwhile reading.

Who else but your gay friend will tell you the truth when you ask "do these pants make my butt look big?" A straight guy won't b/c he knows he'll be in trouble. Your gal pals won't b/c they're afraid you'll think they're just being bitchy. But a gay friend? He'll not only tell you the truth, he'll also help you pick out another outfit that's more flattering.
So 'yes' gay people are a benefit to society. At least gay men are a benefit to straight women.
Some of my best gal pals are gay men!

"Competition for straight women"?! HA!!!! I'd like to move to the town you're talking about!!!! I've been divorced for 15 freaking years, and looking for a decent straight man ever since! And guess what?! All my child-bearing years have now passed my by (without any kids) - and I'm STILL looking to meet a straight man! No, I'm not overweight, nor unattractive. And even though I'm no longer young, I don't look old, either. The fact is, there AREN'T any straight men left to choose from. Either they are married or gay, or in more cases than we realize, married AND gay!!!! Doesn't leave women like me with many options, does it???!? So to answer your question.....NO! Living in a town full of gay men is NOT "beneficial" to ME in the LEAST!!!!!!!

i dont think that there is anything specifically beneficial about it, because as has been pointed out lesbians balance the equation. aside from that i dont see why the question has much scope, as it would be equally relevant to say that people who believe in chastity or no sex before marriage would have the same effect

No. There are plenty of you people and you can't seem to keep you knickers on anyway. Gay people are beneficial because you need role models for proper behaviour and manners. You people can't come up with anything original by yourselves. You copy our hair styles, our clothing styles, piercings, dance and music, you copy our food, envy our design ability, I swear to God if you didn't have gay people to imitate you'd all live in caves wondering who your babies daddy was.
