Sure they've made many great bikes. I'd be willing to bet that you would have an instant change of opinion if as you say, a Harley were offered free to you. I don't wear eye plugs, by the way, what the hell are eye plugs? Honda produces some great bikes as well. Enjoy yours if you have one.

Hey 'MILK', I won't say much as I think the response to you basic question has been clearly responded to by others. However, I would caution you to read your message before 'submitting' it.

The other thing you can do is rent a Harley and make you own decision. Harleys do not come stock with loud pipes. They are quite quiet in their stock form.

Because I live in Southern CA, I have been to many motorcycle rallies and events. I have seen many metric (Import) motorcycles with loud pipes as well. It is a rider preference. Though the trend began with Harley riders, nearly ever motorcycle manufacturer has copied Harley baggers in some form or fashion to sell more bikes, including the ability to add after market pipes for performance and sound.

MILK, it never hurts to do some research. Good riding!

I've owned them all. Honda's, Yamaha's you name it. Until you've owned a lot of bikes, don't be too critical. The Harley's that you see riding around are very good motorcycles. The one I have now always runs good, no leaks and is a dream to ride. To each his own, but the Harley is a fine motorcycle. So are the Honda's, it's just a matter of choice. Own one before you are too critical.

Out of the factory, Harley's are not as loud as you think. It's the after-market pipes that do that. Harley does make a great bike, problem is, alot of the over-price is for the status of owning one. Used to be, owning a Harley meant that you were a true biker. Now it means that you have the money to spend on one

I took the "eye plugs" off of my bike. I didn't like them either...

Did they ever make a good Harley?!?! Do you know how many bikes they sell a year?! Harley has a bad name because they sucked back when AMF owned them. Now the only people who think they sucks are morons who can't read. They are as reliable as any jap bike. Yet they are twice as powerful. My Honda Shadow 1100 had no torque at all. Now my Harley based custom can ride with just about anything at all with 100hp and 100 ft-lbs of torque.

And if you meant "ear plugs", I like my pipes loud. I want people to notice me. I got tired of being ran off the road on my honda because no one knew I was next to them because the bike was so quiet. 1100 used to be a big motor. Why is it so quiet?!

the first and only time i owned a harley was backin the good days when you could find them for next to nothing on corners and garages. they were cheap and so was i. then someone invented a balanced motor and a cycle that was rideanle cross country without giving you carpal tunnel and a bruised tail bone. but not all bikes are built for all things. For commuting and cross country I take my Bmw, if I'm just out playing and ripping it up with friends, there is a gsxr-1000, but guess which one gets 20,000+ mi per year? I took the harley to the coast once when i was way younger, I could never do it again, not even on a new one, seating position forces you to sit like an orangutang and you still get so much vibration through the bike it gets tiring. You definetly aren't taking a rocket cross country, and I wouldn't ever take a harley again. bmw, is a really riders motorcycle, i'm even thinking about getting rid of the gsxr for the new bmw rocket.

Why do you want to show you ignorance? You should learn something about motorcycles before you jump upon your soapbox and make youself look stupid.And...if you knew anything about motorcycles you would know that the sound of the pipes goes out behind you and is not loud to the rider while you're moving down the road.
