Almost any job you get these days requires that you take a drug test. Shouldn't the aristocracy (i.e. Congress) be subject to the same rules?

Would you support a law to require drug-testing our elected officials say every 6 months?

Since they have access to classified information, they should be subject to random drug testing.

... until such time as they see fit to reverse all of those Just Say No policies that require drug screening of most government employees and pressure private companies to do the same.

i believe that every member of Congress and all of their staff, should be subject to the strictest scrutiny, whether that be drug testing, polygraphs, ethics, appearance of impropriety, accounting, etc.

However, i do believe that drug testing is ineffectual & a waste of resources (both time & $$) and that the gov't (and employers also) have no right to intrude on the private lives of individuals (and employees). As long as there is not a immediate threat to public safety and the person's job performance is not diminished, it should not matter what they do in their time off the clock.
**I am making up numbers here** If the average citizen would receive a punishment of $75 for speeding then the Congressperson/their staff shoudl receive a punishment of $750 for speeding.
If the average US citizen's income is $50,000 per year then the highest paid Congressperson should make $50,000 per year.
If it costs the average US citizen $6000 per year to insure their family and still have to pay $10,000 out of pocket medical expenses, then that is what those in Congress should get also.

No, the only jobs that should require drug and alcohol testing are those where public safety, operating machinery etc are involved. All others should be judged solely on their job performance.

Drug testing is mostly a waste of money as test can be beat, and what people do in their spare time is nobody else's business as long as the aren't directly harming other people.

Nobody should be randomly tested in my opinion except if they have been convicted of a drug crime in the past. Your employer should not need to sift through your bodily fluids to decide whether you can continue to be an employee.

Yes!! That is a great idea. I also think the testing should be random and during the work day, so they don't have time to "clean up" before the test.
