I want to let my turtles wander around my house all day. To do this I am going to put their tank on the ground and build a ramp... I just need to know where they go to the bathroom?
It is my hope that they only go in the water, but I dont know.

can someone please tell me?

Well, turtles just aren't that smart. They go wherever they happen to be when the urge hits.

They only go in the water unless stressed, then they will go wherever they are... and your plan will stress them.

In the wild, pond turtles hunt, hide, and feel safe in the water, or on basking sites over the water. They rarely wander on land, and when they do, they are stressed by being so exposed.

The turtle will not know your house is safe, it will simply figure that it is at even more risk because it is such a foreign place.

There is no benefit to a turtle from wandering around. The ONLY benefit is sheer space- but a healthy and happy turtle is already being kept in a nice, big tank (figure about 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length).

Besides- a turtle in nature would never climb a ramp to get back to water. It is pretty unlikely your turtle will figure out that this is the way back home.

Mine always go in the water. When I need to take them out of the tank, I fill up the bathtub a little and put them in there. When transporting them I put them in a box where they can crawl around. They will go in both of those places, too, so don't think they won't go on land. If they have to, they will!

My turtle has a rock to sit on out of the water and once he did leave a turd on it. They mostly go in the water. Make sure you have a good filter.
