I agree with "Last Kiss", either version...the original gives me chills, so does Pearl Jam's version. But the ultimate depressing song? I vote for "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. The song has special meaning to me as a Minnesotan and frequent Lake Superior visitor...

Whoever said Pearl Jam got close for me.. the remake of 'Last Kiss' was by FAR the most depressing song.

How many of us know someone who has died in a car accident? I have known a few... its tragic and horrible.

So I vote this song as the depressing and saddest song ever played.

Do you listen to Radiohead? I'm not a HUGE fan, but I do listen to them when I'm depressed, in fact it's about the only time I can take them. Most every later album they have is full of deliciously depressing songs.
Another album is the Nine Inch Nails album, "With Teeth".
It is also chock full, my favorite being, "Right Where It Belongs".
If you haven't checked it out, its a must for you. It overwhelms my whole body when I listen to it with my ears near the speakers.

It depends what music you listen to.
For me the following songs are pretty depressing.
Helena- My chemical romance
Unforgiven- Metallica
Fade to black - Metallica
Cemetry - Silverchair
Feel so - Box car racer
Sillouhettes - Smile empty soul
Broken - Seether

There is a lot of songs out there.

There are like thousands of sad songs and thousands of opinions about it.
Rock has a long history of sadness ,self torture, and self abuse.
Nirvana was like undoubted mortal gods of confused
and wondered generation.
I introduced to nirvana in my teen and still at 32 i listen it regularly. i suggest you to listen "where did you sleep las night " Nirvana ( Mtv unplugged ) once and if you feel it depressing enough, you might wanna try following.

from death to birth-pagoda
big long -nirvana
something in the way- nirvana
creep - (unplugged ) stone temple pilots
you are right by -nirvana,
nirvana unplugged in Newyork --all songs

especially "where did you sleep" last night and
pennyroyal tea, All apologies, man who sold the world all of them are terribly sad songs.
