In the most general sense, belief is simply what you THINK is true. Think about it... you can't believe something you aren't thinking, nor can you believe something that you don't think is true.
If you want, you can break beliefs down into different groups.
- If what you believe really is true and you have a good reason for believing it then it is knowledge. ("I believe that gravity holds the Earth in orbit.")
- If what you believe is completely subjective, then your belief is an opinion. ("I believe chocolate is the best flavour of ice cream.")
- If what you believe is not based on objective evidence at all, then your belief is faith. ("I believe that Fromage, the God of Cheese, exists.")
I'm sure if you think about it, you can come up with several other flavours of belief. Hope that helps!

Belief is a broad term encompassing both faith and conviction; the first is to believe in spite of or in contradiction to the facts, the second is to believe based on reason, logic, evidence etc...
As far as this statement is concerned, you can have certainty about abstractions that are derived from reality or logic, but where the concept depends on arbitrary assertion, revelation, feeling wishes, whims etc, there can be no certainty. People are convinced that one plus one equals two, which can be established by referring to reality and reason. People also 'believe' in God for instance, but there is no referent to this concept beyond an opinion, and therefore cannot be certain.

No. Belief is just that. I believe that I am sitting at a keyboard with a door about 5 feet to my right because I can see those things.
The word you're looking for is 'faith', sometimes described the certainty of things unseen. Faith by definition is that which you believe but cannot prove to be true. Beliefs can be things you experience and see, indeed most of your beliefs are just that.

Belief has no certainty...
In my book the candidate does not believe.. He is the knower.
Only the truth of knowing will be certain.

Not necessarily.
A lot depends upon how we define belief EACH time we use a belief, when we are not able to perceive of our own....
At a busy railway platform, people say to the next co-passenger " Sir, I believe you.... please keep an eye on my luggage, while I am away for while to buy tickets/food/etc"...
Then there are 'blind' beliefs, like religious beliefs (not all)...
One has to really understand the term, and how it differs from faith, etc.

I agree with the statement. Belief is our faith in the unseen. We believe in love, hope, and peace. By believing in these,we have made them real tangable things. Ok, say no one believed in love. Then what is love? Could anyone define, say it what it means, feel it? no. it would not exist because we tell our minds it doesnt. If we believe though, we know it.we feel it.we describe it. It becomes real the moment we say it is.

That is one definition of belief, specifically though, what you are referring to is a sub-set of belief, and that is faith.
I believe I am alive! (belief)
I believe all humans have goodness in their hearts! (faith)
