DO NOT DELETE THEM!!!
These are the XP updates. They keep your machine safe and secure.
Try downloading and running adaware from lavasoft. Scan for spyware and remove.
Also, try to defragment your hard drive. That is found by clicking start, selecing accessories, then going under system tools. This often increases performance greatly if it has never been done or not recently.

No, you should not delete those.
They are patches to exploited security holes in Windows XP.
The problem probably lies in some other application or spyware.
To remove spyware, do not buy a program, but download the free programs adaware and spybot. Run both of those at different times to clean out the spyware.
If you are running Norton or McAffee anti-virus, they tend to slow down the system a lot too.
You could also be running some other programs that are slowing down your system.
Don't delete the updates!

You can, but I don't think that's a good idea. Because basically all those are XP's security updates that you have been installing for the time you have had your computer.
Check your laptop for spywares, adwares, etc. sometimes these are the cause of your system to be slow. Remove programs that you don't use.

Could cause you problems if you delete xp updates. Those are from Microsoft. So I wouldn't delete those and they shouldn't be causing problems.
You might try defragmenting your hard drive. Right click the My Computer and select Properties, then Tools and then select Defrag

LOL, don't delete it if you don't know what you're doing.
Those 50 or more things are Applications that are being installed inside your Windows XP. Once you delete it, you can't use that application anymore or else you need to re-install it.
