If i were you, don't go for the 40 bucks! You can open it yourself!
Even a kid can do that. Try to analyze the RAM and its slots, if it has a vacant slot then look for the same 512 RAM with the same brand on the store, making it a 1gig RAM. Never buy a RAM with different capacity like 512 and 256, or 512 and 1GB. Two RAM must be the same. Or you can buy a single 1GB RAM and removing the 512MB and for future upgrades another 1GB making it 2GB!

But for now 512MB is fine.
You have a laptop and you must know how to handle your PC like troubleshooting, upgrading or fixing it.

Installing memory in a laptop is generally one of the easiest things you can do to a computer.

"Generally" being the key word there.

To find out how, you can just do a google search for "installing memory on a laptop" to find a guide with pictures.

Some laptops have a slot on the back of the laptop and another under the keyboard. That kind can get a little more complicated.

It's very easy. Usually, you just remove a door or cover on the bottom of the laptop and the memory is in there. You need to see what it can take and what is in there already.

Some laptops have one slo, but most have two. If you have 512 now, it most likely is in 2 sticks. you will need to remove one and replace it.

here is a how-to guide on how to replace it.

Usually there is just one screw holding a plate over the memory. Check with the manufacture to see what the maximum memory your laptop will take, and what type to purchase. Then you'll simply add this memory to the laptop. Good luck
