Sheffield weather station at Weston Park has got records going back to 1884. These tell us that June 2007 is not only the wettest June on record, but the wettest month ever, full stop. So unless anyone is over 123 years old, no one in the UK has witnessed such a wet month. So Mr Pit Bull, if you think the wettest month EVER RECORDED is NOT 'extreme weather' - much less in a month that ON AVERAGE has only 25% of the total rainfall thus far recorded in June 2007, you are a nincompoop.

I know we need rain to survive but this is too much isn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if after it's stopped we don't get any more rain for weeks on end, all this rain will be Natures way of telling us to save some while we can because we won't be getting any more for a looooong time.
The thing is, with the amount of house building that's going on now and is due to start (Gordon Brown's eco-villages) how much more earth are we concreting over? Where is the water supposed to drain away? Is it any wonder houses get flooded when the rainwater simply has nowhere to go?

Yes it is really terrible, I live in East Yorkshire and we have had it bad in this area, what I find difficult to understand, is that we have weather reports, and the experts know it is going to be bad, but we are never organised for a crisis....... noone down our street could get hold of sand bags!

We was lucky, it did not come in the house, but many people around us have been flooded, and their houses and belongings are ruined.
I agree some donation / fund should be set up!

Yes, quite often over the years. June is usually an "iffy" month at best......how often does bad weather interrupt Wimbledon for example?
Heavy rain on high ground as in all cases has to gravitate to low ground. Silly people who live on flood plains then complain if things get a bit soggy. Agreed it's been a strange and in some cases a tragic week, but in all honesty it's hardly extreme weather.
June is only the tail end of Spring......Summer is usually July, August, and September.
