usually thats the first sign a tranny is going to go out, you lose reverse gear but if yours is just grinding it's possible the shifter cable needs adjusted, that is if you still have reverse.

If after the grinding and it is in reverse and it drives ok then it sounds like you may need your clutch adjusted. Now if while you are driving in reverse it is grinding then thats another story. But as long as the other gears work and you don't need reverse don't worry. And hey call your dealer and ask for the manager and tell him why would I bring my car to HIS business for repair when one of his employees WITHOUT even looking at the transmission said the ENTIRE transmission needed replacing. What a tool.

They may be able to replce the gear in the trans for the reverse, But chances are if that gear is out then the rest are just a short matter of time. Mine did the same thing. It ended up getting stuck in drive no matter what gear I put it in. Even park. lol.

First of all, never bring your car to the dealer. They will tell you what ever is necessary to get the most money out of you. Secondly, you may not need another trans. Bring it to a local shop ask them to open it and take a look you may just need a specific gear replaced.

Definetely need a new one that is a given. You can go used or rebuilt though. Much much cheaper and most of the time 3 year 36k mile warranty.
