Everyone always states that they "illegals" are taking jobs from Americans......I have scrubbed toilets, washed floors, dishes , picked vegetables and I don't want to have to do it again. Is it time that we stop kidding ourselves and admit we are spoiled?

Big D...I am no dummy sir....there is an over all downward push on salaries ..not because of illegals....but because of the network in place and out-sourcing. In many industries this has been shown to be true......

College...does not guarantee you a job in your field. I have found great difficulty finding a job where they don't lay you off as soon as the project is over. Until recently I now work at the University where I did My Masters Degree

what country do you live in...what is the minimum wage in your state...the idea of the minimum wage being a livable wage went out with the pet rock....lobbyists have taken care of that...

Are We Americans Spoiled?
To that point I will say Yes.
My reasoning behind this is that We Allow the Greedy politicians and corporations to make decisions for us.
This country used to be " for the people, by the people"
Not one of our presidents in recent memory, even knows what it is like to try and care for a family on minimum wage or less, most of them have come from the rich to the very rich in our country. Even most of the congress are very well to do.
How is it possible for any of them to represent the common man "The true backbone of our country".
Not enough of us step up and let them know that the direction our country is going is degrading all of us.
As for the "illegal" problem, well that's another situation that we have allowed to happen.
The reason they can survive on such wages is simply that, more than one family lives in the same location and more of them that are allowed to work, all the way down to the children and elderly, the more they actually bring in "tax free".
There are no enforced regulations that prevent the people who are hiring these"illegals" and paying them less than honorable wages. The people who hire them are "Traitors" in my eyes, for they are the ones who are making the matter worse.

I'm sure there are some married couples who work for around minimum wage and their combined incomes barely puts them over the poverty line. I assume most are teenagers or losers still living at home with their parents.
Maybe we're spoiled, but I know that I worked too long and too hard to get through college so I wouldn't have to scrub toilets for a living.

Good point. Until the minimum wage issue came up a few weeks ago, I didn't even know what it was. I've never paid minimum wage, and I'm an employer. Teenagers who work here during the summer months, doing chores, get paid more than that by me.

This is a ridiculous question, there are minimum wage laws that can insure a liveable wage. And its BS when employers say they cant afford it....truth is they are greedy and will screw their fellow Americans for the sake of more money.
The ONLY reason the wages are that low is illegal aliens work for cheap, and suck the very lifeblood from our country. There are LOTS of Americans ready to work and support their families. The stupid wage question only exists because illegals make that wage possible. No other country on earth is this suicidal, to allow itself to be corrupted by illegal immigrants.
We need to forget about color and religion. Our country is in trouble. Americans come in all shapes colors and sizes, but.......we are Americans. This is what should bond us together against the world. Do you really think any other country gives a damn what happens to America? Heck, they are praying for our death. Lets focus on Americans, of all colors.
Listen........this is America and our country should put Americans first in everything. Immigrants should not have any rights here at all, lets take care of our fellow Americans first. America is NOT the lifeboat for the rest of the world. We dont owe anyone a damn thing except to our veterans.
Other countries dont even allow immigration........there is no real reason we need immigrants anymore. Let the people from other countries build up their own country, dont run away and try to hide in America. America was built at a price of blood.......most immigrants today are cowards in their own country, thats why they try to hide here. Americans are willing to die for our country, but the immigrants obviously would rather let someone else do their fighting and sacrifice for them.
There are PLENTY of Americans ready to work for a decent wage. We dont need immigrants. The H1B visa program is a scam by big business, dont believe for a second they cant find any qualified Americans to take a job.
Its time we took back our country and maybe even changed the form of government we have. We are no longer represented fairly, the representation is for the wealthy and special interests.
The Americans in our country come in all colors and religions. There is no race involved. What IS involved is simple......this is OUR country and we dont want anymore damn immigrants........got it?
People, we built this country and many of us shed blood for our country, we deserve to have a home, secure from foreign invaders. An illegal immigrant is a foreign invader.
America is in a death spiral. We cant carry the weight of every crybaby immigrant that wants into our great country.
We need to put a MORATORIUM on all immigration, until every single American is taken care of first.
AMERICANS FIRST........then..maybe...a few immigrants here and there.
We Americans May be closer than we think..........to that special time...........time to lock and load

If as an adult you are working a job for minimum wage, I'd safely venture a guess that you've missed the boat somewhere along your life's way. Is it time to admit we're spoiled? You bet!

They should get some education past sixth grade and get a better job.
And if there weren't illegals doing it, these companies would have to pay $8-10/hour. I'll pay more for goods and services if I know all their workers are LEGAL.
P.S. Minimum wage is for teenage burger flippers. If you are an adult and are working for minimum wage, you have more issues than your job!

Yes we are spoiled and the generation we are raising now is even worse since we are responsible for them. But on your first question how many can support themselves on that just for me to think of rent, food, utilities, and what maybe a car!! Pretty tough but I think impossible.

$6 an hour "cash" maybe. That's like $9 or 10 after the IRS get's through with you.
