i use a wireless modem/router to connect to the internet. the router assign dynamic ip addresses to several computers. my questions are

1. what's the relationship between ip address and access point?

2. my router has a function of "reserve" dynamic ip addresses and turn them into "static ip addresses". does turning an ip address of computer on the network into a static one priortize the internet connection of that paticular computer over other computers that have dynamic ip addresses?

thank you in advance.

There is no real relationship between assigned IP address and a AP, besides allowing the computer with the IP address in the setup range access to the AP.

And no, Static IP's do not give bandwidth priority over Dynamic IP's. Static IP's are used for stuff like a computer is hosting a web site and needs to have the same IP address all the time so Others can access its content.

The IP address of your computer is sort of like the mailing address for your house. Every computer on the internet has an IP address. In your case, your router (or access point) has an IP address too. So when you are receiving a message from the internet, the message is sent to the IP address, which points to your router. Then your router knows which computer in your home network to send the information to.

A dynamic IP address is an address that changes (usually when a system is rebooted, etc). A static IP is one that you assign that always stays the same. Having a static IP does not prioritize your connection over others--its probably more useful for people who want to send otherwise router-blocked traffic through the router to their computer (usually opening up certain ports through the router, and anything going through these ports are always sent to the designated computer).
