Which centuries do men still mimick or design after? In other words, might I say a theater had a 17th Century (for instance) motif? What's more interesting than 17th Century. What nutshell history is also from that era?

The victorian era was one of the best. 1830s to 1900s ,
the Edwardian and art decco period was also great to .and
at present there is not much in the way of nice quality designs
that will last.

Gothic age or era (1150-1500)(12th century)
explains some architectural stuff learned in the gothic era.
http://egghead.psu.edu/~ma_tapps/arch/gothic.html

It was when they figured out how to suuport the wieght of the walls on buttresses and flying buttresses so they could build the churches taller and they could also use stained glass because the walls were better supported. this was also when they started using the ribbed groin vaults, pointed arches, and stuff to support the weight of the ceilings.

the churches of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris (translated to mean "Our Lady") ,Chartres Cathedral in France,Cathedral at Rheims, are all examples of a gothic era church.

God I'm not good with dates, but id look under the age of the Romans and Greeks. They worked on the arc and dome as such.

Renaissance of Italy is also a big one, as Michelangelo was also an architect.

The Mayans and the Egyptians, ca pre-1000: they laid the foundation for all future construction (so to speak).
