MLB much prefers alternating year to year, but it also likes showcasing new(er) parks, and the NL has a surplus of new parks whereas the AL, not so many. Plus, the hosting teams must bid for the ASG. When the 2007 Game site was selected two years ago, there were no AL parks that made really good candidates -- the Yankees new park wasn't yet approved, all the new parks except Tampa had been recent hosts (Comerica 2005, Comiskey/Cellular 2003, Safeco 2001, Fenway 1999 (not new, but its first ASG in a long time, and might have been its last), Jacobs 1997, The Ballpark 1995, Camden Yards 1993, SkyDome 1991), and no one really wants the Game in the Trop. So MLB bit their own bullet and selected an NL host, San Francisco. The press release, at the time, even had a quote by Seligula about the unusual circumstances involved in making this choice, but that he expected it would be a one-time thing and was simply pressed upon the decision-makers due to practical considerations.

Well while I don't know the exact answer, I would have to believe it is because there are 2 more NL teams than AL. If you were to alternate every other year there would be an AL city that sees an all star game before an NL team has the chance during the go round.

probably because the NL has been getting their butts kicked for like the last 9 years. also the DH rule sucks.

Why complain? The AL always win anyways.

That way they can have the all star game at Yankee Stadium next year, in its last season.
