Oh yeah. When I waitressed, I was getting $3.09 an hour for 37 hour work week. Yet somehow the owner only paid me about $10 a week. He said it was taxes, new shirt, something. I totally relied on tips. But in the end sometimes I was making over $30 an hour. I really cut back and learned how to save on food, changed my car insurance, make my own tortillas and bread, I really became a cheapskate. Now I'm better off, but I still use those money saving tactics I learned 10 years ago.

Yes I have. I also wait tables and it os definatly not minimum wage. Tkae tonight for instance. It was an avg friday noght. not good. not bad. average. I sold approximatly $800. I worked from 4 to 945 (5.75 hours). My job called me to come in early instead of starting at 5 but i didn't get a table until 5:09pm so realistically i worked 5 hours. I walked with $113 in my pocket in tips. I make min wage $6.15/hr. for an hourly. $113/5 hours is $22.60/hr. Add the 6.15 and I made $28.75/hr tonight. Even i you count 6 hours is still $24.98/hr. 40hrs/wk x $25/ hr = $52000... but servers dont make any money ... :)

<--- laughing all the way to the bank.

As a person who worked in the service industry, I completely understand. If I recieve bad service, then that means that you are going to get 15% . Most people serving are living off of their tips and most servers in most states only get about $2.13 an hour (enough to take care of thier taxes). Personally, I am a frequent diner, so I reward good service, usually around 20-30%.

It don't work ,do it??? I tried being a waitress once when I was younger...to work my butt off for people and be nice even to the jerks and then have someone leave you a penny really stinks. I left that business but I make sure I'm a real nice customer and I tip very well for good service.

Its really hard. I think that each state should decide what minimum wage should be, because the cost of living varies. It doesn't cost as much to live in Pennsylvania as it does in California. Its stupid to have a set wage for the entire country.

Nope, I wouldn't be able to make with my rent... Prices out here are ridiculously high, even for a one bedroom like mine.

I've been there, done that. sorry, but you continue to stay in that line of work, and are aware that you will not always have a big tip day.
