I agree, mum's should be allowed to feed their babies in public, but I think it should be done discreetly. My sister breast fed her son, and always kept a little scarf over her shoulder and around the baby's head.
I would not expect a mum to feed her baby in a public bathroom etc, but covering up a little means less people can be offended or upset by something natural.
We live in quite a prudish society, we rarely see nudity in public. I'm not saying breast feeding is nudity, but even I don't want to see a giant boob being whipped out if I'm about to tuck into my own lunch. A little modesty and everyone's happy!
Good question.

Right, I could get a lot of bad comments from this but what the heck...
I breast fed our baby. However I would never feel comfortable doing so in public and never did. If I went out with our baby I would make sure that I had expressed before hand. I don't think there is anything wrong with it and wouldn't feel uncomfortable seeing other mothers feeding their babies in public - it just wasn't for me. It was a private thing and that only happened at home.
As for people asking mothers to stop feeding their baby. I think that's just wrong. It's the most natural thing in the world.

I think it's ridiculous that people would ask woman to stop doing something that they've been doing in public since the beginning of time...there is nothing sexual about breast feeding, most woman aren't trying to show off their breasts when they're feeding their child, so why shouldn't they be allowed to do it?
I've heard some people that are anti-public breast feeding say that they don't want their own children exposed to that sort of thing. I see no damaging effects on children...the parents may have to explain what breast feeding is earlier, but honestly, we all need to start talking to our children more anyway. I know some fourteen year olds that still don't know what menstruation is. That's simply ridiculous.
Ooops...I wrote a novel, didn't I? Sorry 'bout that.. :P

Of course you should be able to feed your child when it is in need of feeding, where ever that may be public place or not. Unfortunately what you cannot regulate is making women do it in a tactful manner. Some women feel it is ok to just flop out a breast in the middle of a crowded restaurant etc....which may be totally ok with some people but make others uncomfortable. I believe it can be done with taste and consideration to others, by way of moving off to the side or placing a blanket over yourself.

It's someone's right. Public breast feeding, well, I can see why it's a problem in some people's eyes. I think if I saw someone breast-feeding their baby I would at first be a little embarrassed, but I wouldn't care.

Don't see why anyone would want a person to stop breast feeding. With all the drugs, crime, violence and wars going on I think this is one of the most pointless things to protest. Yes, we don't mind the people getting beaten up by gangs of teenagers as long as those damn breast feeding women are stopped. I'm lost on peoples prioritising skills these days.

You bet!!
Its natural, 1000000000000000000 times more natural than pumping little babies full of the chemicals found in formula. Its cheaper, healthier for baby and creates a bond between mother and child. Some people think its savage like but the greatest people in history were no doubt breatfed. Mozart, bethoven, twain, van gough, charles dickonson and freud were probly breast fed!!!

Definitely yes, first, for the natural immunities that the baby
can get solely from mothers milk, and second for the bonding
between mom and babe that lasts for life.( in public it can,
and should be done quite modesty -- it's not hard for ladies
to be covered)
However, if mother smokes, drinks or does drugs the
baby is much better off with formula.

As long as it's done discreetly, I think it's OK. What I don't agree with is when someone flops their boob out for all to see, yes I agree it is the most natural thing in the world but so is sex and peeing but we dont do them in public.
I am 5 months pregnant and will breast feed, I won't just flop them out anywhere though I'm afraid, I think it's a private thing.

I totally agree with breast feeding and the right to do it anywhere as long as you're discreet. I do not agree with cafe's etc asking mums to breastfeed their babies in the toilet, would they eat their dinner in the toilet? I used to find a quiet corner in a cafe, use a shawl to cover everything and baby underneath feeding... very discreet :o)
The general public need to realise that babies feeding isn't disgusting etc and the mums don't do it for sexual gratification or to flash their boobs in public.... They do it simply to feed the baby.
