Coffee grounds added to the soil in your garden or flower beds will really help new growth. Pouring plain coffee down the drain won't hurt but it may cause some staining to the sink. I normally pour leftover coffee directly in the garden soil.
During the colder months I put the coffee grounds i a container and then add them to my compost pile.

It's not recommended because of the oils in the coffee. Oils from coffee, baking, cooking grease, meat scraps, salad dressing, mayonnaise ~ all that kind of stuff ~ will eventually solidify somewhere down in the pipes and clog them. Running hot water down the sink doesn't help since all it does is push the grease just a little further down the pipe.
