I love the stars wars bar scene analogy!
You have all the people from different tribes, top black market traders of illegal goods, the deal makers, and the unintelligible babbling.

I'll go along with the Star Wars bar scene analogy.

That seems much more accurate than "deliberate body of statesmen."

Is there, anywhere in the world, an 'august and deliberative' group of any sort ?
Everything seems much more like a circus of privateers....

Neocons have detested the U.N since the days of the John Birch Society. It is important to have a place where nations can meet civilly. Will it solves the worlds problems, maybe not today, but, it is a start.

I prefer the bar scene metaphor.

Lots of seedy characters from all over the place who gather together, talk about clandestine deals, and wind up doing nothing.

Yes, they are statesmen.. It was thought the UN would prevent another world war. We haven't had one since its founding. The UN is also great at coordinating humanitarian relief efforts.
