"Cohabitation, once rare, is now the norm: The researchers found that more than half (54 percent) of all first marriages between 1990 and 1994 began with unmarried cohabitation. They estimate that a majority of young men and women of marriageable age today will spend some time in a cohabiting relationship. ... Cohabiting relationships are less stable than marriages and that instabililty is increasing, the study found."
I lived with my current husband of 20 years for about 1.5 years beforehand. And our friends lived together 7 years before they got married, happily, for 15 years now.

My husband and I lived together for 7 years and 3 kids before we got married. We had both been married before and were scared of mingleling our fonances and credit! I guess after 3 kids, we found we were already "married". We did it for the kids. And yes, we'd still be together with out the kids, but probably would of never married. It's a personal preference I suppose.

my fiance and I dated for about 9 months before we got engaged...we moved in together a month later (bought a house) and we'll be living together for about a 15 months before we get married. I highly suggest living with the person before you get married - you find out ALOT of stuff you would never even think of...and being around each other all the time is alot different from going to your own places at night.
good luck!

I don't know the exact answer to that question. Studies show that those who live together before marriage are more likely to get divorce. I don't really understand that much. My husband and I lived together for 8 years before we got married, we have only been married for three years now.
I think the study suggests that people who cohabitate do not honor and respect marriage as much as those who don't. Therefore, when the going gets tough they are more likely to get a divorce then work it out.
Honestly I think it depends on the couple.

It depends. My uncle and (well, sort of aunt) have lived together for like, 10 years, and aren't married , but have 3 kids and act like they are married. So I guess it all depends.
