Make sure it's the state that a county in it is in the middle of all the people in the United States, not for big cities.

After the last census, the center was Phelps County, MO. I would have to say that it is it might stay in Missouri, but probably a little closer to the Arkansas border. There is still a migration towards the Southern states, not just the Western states.

Given that "mean population center" calls for the centre of the country's population, were it balanced on a pinpoint, and given that it's been Missouri for the last thirty years, it will likely still be Missouri in 2010. Most likely moving to the south and west. See reference below for a cool graphical representation.

I honestly believe, due to current trends, that california would be the next great mean population center in 2010, just as a personal opinion. the current population of california is not going to stop growing, it will only increase.
