You should use HIGH TEMP paint, not every day paint.
the calipers get very hot when used.

You can paint them on the car, but if you want it to look
professional, you should take them off, and scrub them down
with a wire brush, and then spray them with BRAKE KLEEN.

that will help the paint stick better.

Plus, if you spray them on the car, you need to mask off
the rotors and all sorts of other things,

You don't have to remove them just make sure you mask the area properly because of the over-spray, go to the auto store and get a caliper paint kit, the paint is specific for calipers and won't peel off or fade like regular spray paint

Well, if you want it to look good then buy brake caliper paint. You will want to take the calipers off the rotor at least to avoid getting paint on the rotor. Now if you want to do it cheaper (which it sounds like you do) buy exhaust paint it will withstand the temps that the calipers reach. Otherwise your paint job will only last a few weeks.

Sure, just make sure you clean them good first and make sure you paint ONLY the calipers, not the rotors or brake pads.

You could, but

a. it won't last
b. it might gum up the works
c. you'll get it on the rotors, which wouldn't hurt braking but would look crappy.

If you want to do it right, take the calipers off the car and take them to someone who will powder coat them. Powder coating "electrically" attaches the color to the material.

just remove your wheels and tires and go to the parts store and get high heat paint in the color you want and go to it.

it really is'nt wise to paint them at all because the paint would or should be baked on the exteme heat will flake the paint in a short time I myself would'nt even waste my time and you may have to sand blast then rust proof then paint because water would eventually penatrate the paint mixed with the heat produced at the same time not to be smart or anything but I guess to each his own good luck
