I was that smart dude, who still played some sports and knew how to relate to people, at first it was hard to get friends, but hell by the time I was a junior I didn't have any more enemys and people weren't picking on me, they were coming to me for advice. You gotta flip the script on cats some time.
College is where you really break out of the shell.
Losing 20 lbs. helped alot

In high school, I tended to hang out with the semi-goth/semi-artsy people. But I was pretty much friendly to everyone.
Now (at age 24), I'm me. (Still friendly to everyone!) Forget about labels, just be yourself.
Once you're out of high school, labels don't matter anymore. In fact, those people who tried to keep a label on themselves and act a certain way, once they're in college and in the "real world", people think more like "um, what are you trying to compensate for?" about them, rather than "that is an interesting person".
High school does not determine who you are in life. I look back on my classmates from high school via MySpace or Facebook, many of the most "pretty" and "popular" people are now fat & ugly, are in dead-end jobs or relationships, and just not doing so hot. On the flip-side, many of the "nerds" and "outcasts" have grown-up and are quite attractive and successful now!

I was very active in too many clubs and sports.
But I was shy, awkward, confused, worried, very self- conscious..high school is hard, I wish everyone out there the best of luck..if you are not comfortable with who you are, dont worry, you have plenty of time to find out about yourself and who you are =)
what you are in high school is only a small part of your life journey and very irrelevant ..its ok if you arent ms .popularity or liked by everyone, etc. in the grand scheme of things its just high school and its what you make of it
Be yourself, live life to the fullest !

I was the guy who had one or two friends in every crowd but always remained on the fringe. I'm still the same. I don't like getting drawn in. I'm sure very few people remember me from back then and I'm sure very few people notice me now.
