The constitution rules the military. We don't have dictators and rogue generals performing coups because of our system of putting civilians in charge.

The Constitution sets up the ground work and all government branches work and abide by it. The military is important because it shows strenght and power and protects this countries borders, and other countries. The liberal ideals make this country a better place for the individual and protects our rights as citizens.

Back then they were considered radical idealist by no doubt. Now, the Conservatives try to protect those ideals but far left liberals (not all liberals) try to take those out. Come to think of it, who tried the prohibition again?! lol! Bad argument.
The Constitution all the way :)

The Constitution without a doubt.
Too many people forget that a military government rules by what is legal, not what is illegal.
Thank god for our radical, open minded constitutional framers!

Constitution and Americas Military minus the additional "liberal ideals" talking point (added to invoke a particular response). Our Military upholds the Constitution.

The military .
Anyone with half a brain knows that the advances in weapons and the use of the military are the only reason this nation even exists .
We forced the South to surrender when they wanted to continue to practice slavery .
It would have been an unfair advantage for southern land and business owners when the north had been forced to pay better wages because the immigrants had formed unions and had begun to bargain collectively .
This would have ruined the norths ability to compete with the south .
Just as today we use labor from countries that oppress there people under police and military run states .
People are forced to work for low wages just to live .
SO its clear that military force is the only thing holding this nation together .
It was used during the Sixties and early seventies to put down a movement for peace and equality for all people weather black hispanic asian indian or eskimo .
As well as to slow the womens movement and gay rights end the draft and stop vietnam .
What happened to Cindy Sheehan is nothing compared to what some americans felt from the but of an army rifle .
Cindy gave up because of the threat of jail for tax issues and told if she remains quiet she will not go to jail like martha stewart did . .

Liberalism was a wonderful thing back in the day, before it became a spring board for moral issues that do not reflect the majorities opinions.
The constitution backed by a strong military is what is most powerful and what is right.

The military is there to support and defend the Constitution and every Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine, enlisted and officer takes an oath to support and defend the Constitution when they enter service. The military follows the directions of the civilian leaders.

Neither. The people is supposed to be the final mandate in a democratic society. Unfortunately, this country falls short of such ideals when it comes to practicing them. We need the military to protect;but as history has proven, war games have not resolved much. Ou nation might not be perfect, but is still the best place to be in this world.
