What is your opinion of repeat offending drunk drivers? Suitable punishments?

It occured to me while I was driving my kids home from school that one of the cars around me was obviously under the influence. And it astounds me that our judicial system here in Australia doesn't deal with them harshly enough which leads to repeat offenders. Drink driver are amongst the scariest people on our roads and cause WAY too many unnecessary deaths world wide. What do u think is appropiate punishment to try and curb this idiotic act?

I think they should install a Breathalyzer in all vehicles of people who have an offense. Then If they don't pass it their car won't start. I think jail time for these idiots should be longer too. I know 2 people who died because of drunk driving (one who was drunk and one who was just an innocent driver going home from school.)
People don't realize just how many lives could be affected by their actions. All they care about is getting to the next party or bar.

Do you remember when Australia had a debtors prison ? I think that concept is needed all over.

Take a drunk or a drug head, lock them up and force them to dry out cold turkey. I don't think they should be mixed in with criminals but if that doesn't work, regular prison for them because it's only a matter of time till they kill someone or turn to crime to feed the need...

Repeat DUI offenders abound all over, even where they are harshly punished. This is just another good reason why we need a gulag. I think every industrialized nation should have a gulag. They are just so handy.

They should be dropped in the middle of a monster truck rally arena. But get the monster truck drivers nice and drunk first!
