I'm serious. People who have been there before, back me up on this. Everything works better in japan, people are nicer, women are better looking, things work the way they're supposed to, cooler cell phones, no stupid liquor laws, you can get Whiskey from vending machines, amazing public transportation, the Shinkansen, no machismo, don't have to worry about who has a gun, awesome clubs where women actually look feminine (Asian women are soooooooooooo hot) , arcades (yes, in Japan they still have them ) hanami, nomikais, no Republicans, etc.

It's funny how the people attacking me are so offended by the mere suggestion that maybe the US isn't the best country in the world. I guess ignorance really is bliss, huh piper?

It is very difficult to live in Japan for an extended period of time and then return to the U.S. There are many things that are undeniably better in Japan...when those quality are taken away...you most definitely notice it. The rude behavior of Americans is the first thing to hit you.

But Japan is not perfect. They have problems as well.
a. I experienced more non-violent crime in Japan than I had in my entire life in the U.S.
b. Women still are treated as inferior...great when you are a guy, but not a woman.
c. It's expensive.
d. One political party rules the country, is corrupt, and does not answer to the people.
e. Less personal freedom. Less entreprenural opportunity.
f. Crowded. Along with expensive...good luck getting your own home. Most Japanese live w/ their parents even when they are married. "love hotels" exist so that married couples can get it on in private.

Nobody's perfect. Realize that when Japanese come to America, they also notice what is better about America...like being able to stretch your arms without hitting five other people...having a big house, big car, lower cost of living, personal freedom, etc, etc.

I second Sydney's answer, this is the best explanation!Maybe if people begin to think more about the others, US will become just like Japan, and even better.
There are liquor laws, however-noone under 20 is allowed to buy alcohol or cigarettes, and in case you buy such, you are asked to prove you are above 20 by showing some ID.I disagree that women are more feminine, there are many rude and aggressive Japanese girls. I and some of my friends often end up crying because of their rude attitude. A lady even hit me very hard for coming close to her- maybe she didn't want a foreigner that close(I'm very clean person, wash at least twice a day and use perfume on daily basis).
As an European I'd think, from what read and hear, that the US might be awful country...I've never been there and don't know, but if Japan is so much better...I really don't know what to think.

It depends on the person, although I like Japan better. Japan has a lot of trendy things, incredibly high tech, and yet they still care about the nature and it is so beautiful there. Japan seems cleaner and safer. Some of my relatives who live in Japan like America better. LoL. (The grass is always greener on the other side...) They say that the summer is awful because of all the mosquitoes and the humid heat.

I have been to Japan, but I don't think it's better OR worse than the U.S.

Every country has good points and bad points. Also, looking at the posts, when questions like this are asked, it makes people choose an extreme: they either support you completely or they go out of their way to make Japan sound awful.

There really is no such thing as a "best" country. Some people may like Japan, others may prefer the United States. Many people prefer other countries, like Ireland, Brazil, Kenya, or even Saudi Arabia.

Have you been to Japan, and have you read about issues that Japan faces?

That's just your opinion. I don't think Japan is so much better than the US.

I'm Japanese and I've lived in the states for more than 10 years. And I think that no country is perfect and there are always disadvantages and advantages to live in any country.

But people want to find a place where they feel comfortable to live. And if you think that you feel more comfortable to live in Japan, you should get a visa to live there or you can find a Japanese woman in the US and marry her and move to Japan.

By the way, I don't know which place you visited in Japan. But all places in Japan are not like that. Probably you stayed in Tokyo or some big city. But if you visited a real countryside in Japan, your opinion might have been different. All I can say is that you just probably experienced the glimpse of Japan. And I think that you don't really know the real Japanese society and people and etc. People who always say something like that usually didn't stay in Japan long enough. If you stayed there for more than 10 years, you probably have a different opinion.

I'm Japanese and I know all Japanese people are not nice. Some people are prejudice toward any foreigners including Americans. I don't know how well you can speak Japanese but if you can communicate with Japanese people well, you will finally be able to see the real Japanese stuff. What you have seen is just the surface of something that you don't see in the states. And that might have made you excited to a certain extent. But if you lived in Japan long enough and communicated with Japanese people so well, you could understand there isn't really much different between Japanese people and American people because that's what I've experienced in the states. Of course there are cultural and custom differences and stuff. But the basic stuff that you experience is not that different especially when it comes to the relationship between friends and family. Human beings are universally kinda similar in any society. But because of cultural and custom differences, it might appear people are different but basically they are not.

Anyway, I've said negative things about you. But I did appreciate that you like Japan so much. But I'm not really sure if you have really seen the real Japan.

And before I go, I want to say that I do love Japan because it's my country but I just don't think that Japan is so much better than the US.

there's no perfect country in the world, and Japan is not the exception.
when you feel Japan is better than the US in some points, there also would be worse things.
I know many problems about Japan because I'm a Japanese though I appreciate my luck that I was born and brouht up here in Japan.
anyway when you foreigners feel good in Japan,it's our pleasure.but don't adore Japan too much not to get disappointed when you notice some faults of it.

some stuff is very good (e.g., crayon shinchan is almost on par with south park (at least in Japanese), but then compare

why it has the highest suicide rate among developed countries
the poor quality of universities
lack of jury system in the courts (99% cconviction rate, come on)
no investigative press (though u.s. is losing this under bush)
a totally restrictive bureaucratic government
a medieval ministry of education

To each their own.

I would get a Visa, live there for a year or two, and if you really like it, apply for permanent residency.

Nothing wrong with wanting to live somewhere else.
Each country has it's benefits, but they also have their cons too. It's up to you to decide which outweighs the other.

Good Luck !

PS: Asian women are very attractive, I agree.

I think your analyses are based on personal preferences.

I don't prefer Asian women so I wouldn't necessarily like it there. Women in the US look plenty feminine to me.

Public transportation remains a large task here in the US, a country 50 times the size of Japan. Last I looked, things worked pretty much the same here.

Cell phones are the same ones, Liquor laws are a gov't project since our contry has so many different cultures....whereas Japan has one culture, it would be easier to govern liqour. Clubs? US has lots of them...it all depends on where you go.

I don't worry about who has a gun...I am aware of my surroundings though....that is common sense.

US has arcades, public amusement parks, etc etc...

I think the cost of living in Japan is pretty steep, the houses are small....
