I am answering this from my office at a propane company. Yes you can refill before the bottle is empty, and if its a good place like this, they will only charge you for the gallons needed to fill it, and not a full botlle price. Good luck

And please dont take the other persons advice and taske it to a "car workshop"..lol

I have 2 tanks for my grill & after using the 2nd tank for a while I take them both to get refilled. This is a good way to be sure you never run out in the middle of cooking something.

They weight the tanks as they fill them & you pay by the pound.

Where I live, they fill by weight. You only pay for the amount of gas needed to fill the tank. So yes, it does not need to be empty to get it refilled.

the new tanks have a level so the answer would be yes, if its an old one, they may refuse to fill it.
