I have seen a stopped escalator because someone's shoestring wedged into the collapsing steps, and the first three steps aren't unfolded completely. I had always thought they were at their full height when they come out but I was wrong. They rise under your feet, and then begin folding three steps before the exit.

LOL - um, no?!?! Why wouldn't I be able to get off the escalator? Unless my legs were stuck in it.

Yes, it happenned to Me at the Mall of America.
It took the fire and rescue crew 2 hours to get Me to safety,bless thier hearts,I was so scared ,I soiled Myself!
