My son has had some congestion for a few days and went for his one month checkup Monday and the doc said he just has a cold and to use saline drops. I started those yesterday and ever since he has been worse. He has no fever 97.9, but he is so congested and is sleeping very restless(I have been up since 3:00am). He is coughing alittle, mainly when laying down, and sneezing. What do you suggest?

keep up with the saline to help thin out the mucus and keep him elevated..i would let me little ones sleep in their car seats strapped in...a cool mist humidifier also helps keep thier secretions moist..sneezing is good--shows he is expelling the stuff out....cough is also good cause it clears out the bronchi...as long as its not green, getting thicker, or having problems breathing or starts with a fever i would say he is fighting it off and your doing a good job..once he is over the peak--it willl get better...

if you are breastfeeding you should use drops of breast milk instead of saline as the saline drys out the nose and makes hard stuff that hurts. the breast milk will clear out the nose but is keeps everything nice and soft so it doesn't hurt the babe. also bring baby to the bathroom and run the shower really hot so that the bathroom steams up and let the baby breath in the steamy air that really helps to ease the congestion. you can do that in middle of the night too. just put baby in a car seat or bouncy seat and put him on the floor and run the shower. you should never leave baby alone in there but you can then lay down next to him and rest while he breathes and the car seat or bouncy seat holds the head up a little more so baby can breath easier. and you can let baby sleep in a car seat or bouncy seat when they have a cold so the head is up.

good luck and i hope he is feeling better soon

take a hot shower with the baby and suction as much mucus as you can out of the nose or throat. saline drops is all you can use at this young age. the doctor told me NO COLD MEDICINE..... the baby is too young right now.
also prop the baby up a bit by putting a blanket under one side of the matress underneath to help with breathing.

Call the pediatrician and tell them that your son is getting worse and you need him to be seen again.

I would recommend using a crib wedge used under the head of his mattress. It keeps your baby on a slight incline, so that his upper body is slightly higher than his lower body. This prevents fluid build up in the ears and lungs.

When my son was little and now with my daughter - I use the Vicks Vaporizer with vapo steam, it seems to work pretty good for helping with colds, you can buy them at Walmart and Target for around $10. I read it also helps to elevate their crib matress' slightly to help with colds and congestion.

No need to worry, most propably your baby is suffering from some viral infection, so you should give some decongestant with nasal saline drops, you will definitely get some relief

Get a humidifier for his room...or close the bathroom doors and turn on the hot water and steam up the bathroom...the steam will help clear his nose.
