I say they should go ahead and demolish it. Frankly, it's a dilapidating useless eyesore. Some here in the D say declare it a landmark, others say house a minor league team there. What do you think?

I am a Detroit Tigers fan who thought that the Tigers should have never built a newer stadium. I understood that the Tigers needed a new ballpark because what new ballparks had you could not put inside Tiger Stadium. New ballparks have suites, entertainment for children, and team museum in the ballpark. Tiger Stadium had very few suites but they were always reserved by major corporations and the suites they had about the upper deck were not safe to use.

When the Detroit Tigers moved to Comerica Park, I first thought that the stadium could be preserved for future. I though the stadium could be used for baseball games, movies, concerts, and for being a place for outdoor conventions. Although there were plans to redevelop the stadium all the plans did not go through because the City of Detroit did not like them or Detroit Tigers Team Owner Mike Illitch did not like the plans.

Today, I would like to see the stadium demolished but would like the see the field preserved for future generations so that future ball players can play where former baseball legends once played. There are plans to turn the stadium into a commercial and residential area with a small ballpark but I dod not see those plans occuring since Detroit does not have the funding to pay for such a project.

I have a website listed in the source section you might find helpful to learn about the future of Tiger Stadium and I do agree with you that the stadium should be demolished because it is an eyesore to look at.

Just demolish it (like so many other structures need to be in Detroit). Why put a minor league team there? There's plenty of minor league stadiums around, and Detroit's AAA team has a home in Toledo (which does pretty darn well for attendance and also has a brand new ballpark that's one of the best in the nation for minor league). And landmark? I don't see any other cities really doing this, although I have seen several were imploded or demolished in some other way shape or form.

It'd be a great minor league park but the Illitches won't allow that to happen.

Next best thing would be to keep the stands that are around the infield and make it a baseball facility for the whole area. I'd make the infield a flex-field so it can be used for Little League to college. I'd develop around the outfield with condos, retail and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.

My earliest memory of Tiger Stadium, Mark "the Bird" Fydrich pitch his gem against the Yankees on Monday night baseball in 1976.

people who say demolish it are obviously not from detroit. This stadium has been the home of the Tigers since the late 1910's and was home to the Lions in the glory days. Its the place where babe ruth hit his 700th home run, the place where lou gherig played his last game.

Its not an old building, its not an eyesore. For most detroiters its a symbol of their childhood. Going down to the stadium to see the greats like Al Kaline and Hank Greenberg and Willie Horton. It reminds us of a time period when Detroit was alive and booming. But as the auto industry comes and goes, so does Tiger stadium.

I loved Tiger Stadium and remember going to see games there for many years but as times change so must the landscape. While some buildings deserve to be saved, I don't think this is one of them. The maintenance for this place has got to be fairly substantial and it is much too large to keep maintained for a minor league team. Rip it down I say....we will still have our memories and those will be around forever.

Fix her up & keep her!! I personally think that it would be great to see our Minor League teams closer and it would only . Great idea!! It's historic to Detroit--why not keep her & looking SHARP? Ugh..I hate seeing it rot away.

Or put something positive in the city if they must tear it down...a HUGE YMCA perhaps--to keep kids off the streets. Something good should be put there if it is demolished. It's only right...too many of us have great memories at the stadium. :D

GO TIGERS!

It saddens me to see what has become of That Grand Ol Lady. It has been neglected by The City of Detroit for far too long.

I say tear completely down, and make a little neighborhood park out of it.

Save the infield and make into a small diamond for softball games.

Since the city of Detroit bought it for one dollar and then intentionally let it go to hell, it is obvious that the city will tear it down no matter what. What a waste. They will more than likely build condo and offices that no one will use because all they care about is the mighty tax dollar.

If someone actually kept the stadium in decent shape I'd say keep it up, but its been almost 8 years now, and its falling apart... I ahte to say it, but its time to just demolish it.

I agree, tear it down. I undestand the attachment as a historic land mark, but what some people call historic, many of us just call "old".

By the way Lady Mayson, I like your picture. You're a very pretty lady.
