any idea of how human activities or the excessive use in responsible for the exhaustion of oil reserves and what difficulties will be faced by the present and future generations if these get exhausted???

I'm guessing you mean oil reserves and not oil spills.

Well, lots of current research in the energy field is aimed precisely to alternative forms of energy. Hopefully they'll be cleaner options.

Obviously, we will have to use other forms of energy. What a lot of people overlook is that most of our chemical production is also based on petroleum and natural gas feed stocks. I think it will be much harder to develope new sources of chemical feedstocks than it will be to use other forms of energy.
