Not all Christians hate Harry Potter. I am a Christian and I have enjoyed the Harry Potter books that I have read. My children have all read all the Harry Potter books so far. My spouse has read a few as well. Good family sharing.
As a Christian I just wish people who are fascinated with Harry Potter could also be fascinated with Jesus Christ.

I think with this question the term "Christian" seems to be a bit broad. Many of my fundamental/evangelical Protestant Christian friends argue that because Harry Potter involves witches and witchcraft it goes against the teachings of the Bible. I disagree. I also have other evangelical friends who just love the books. I guess it is a matter of what is taught during their bible studies and services. As for Catholics I can't exactly speak on behalf of the Church. (Note: Catholics are Christians. I've come across some people who think otherwise). However, a friend of mine who attends a Catholic University majoring in Philosophy and Catechetics and is discerning to be a Priest says that they are using the Harry Potter books in his class to discuss the Christian values found throughout the series. The books do mention Christmas and Easter, which are Christian celebrations.

Harry Potter has been voted as a great book by a number of catholic groups, so with the exception of extreme fundamentalists who are quite vocal on the media, most christians have absolutely no problem with the book.

Harry Potter is popular, people can thus feel special by hating it. Snobbish, really. If something is popular, it must obviously be "shallow and pedantic." Think that means that people can feel better about themselves.
The "Christians" that tend to be against Harry Potter are also the same "Christians" that tend to be against C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. That is to say, they are a very vocal and very small minority that take things a bit too literal.

i do understand that magic and sorcery is considered evil im some religions.
im a Christian and i adore harry potter.
i personally dont see and anything wrong with it.
i think religions dont see the difference between reading a magical fantasy book than actually practicing evil magic.
ive never understood this idea but obviously none of this stuff is real so i want to know why they make such a big deal out it.

I don't hate Harry Potter, but I don't like it either. The whole series is getting too long and boring. It's the same thing over and over again--Harry vs. Voldermort. Harry escapes harm at the last instant. Voldermort does not succeed for now. JK Rowling just added the twist of Dumbledore dying.
Also, I like fantasy, but if you read some fantasy from the true masters, you will find Harry Potter childish and inferior.

I used to resent the books considering the fact that I proposal they might be rather nerdy and mideval-themed, however a couple of years after the fourth publication got here out, I began studying the sequence and I rather appreciated it. I discovered that it wasn't dorky in any respect, it used to be good written, and it wasn't mideval in any respect. If you are judging the sequence by means of the films, I recommend you check out studying the books. They're WAY higher than the films, and the films are not very correct. They exhibit a likeness among Ron and Hermione WAY too early, they difference scenes round, and so on.

umm i am christian and i like harry potter. they freak out because it has magic, with witches and when they correspond that they only think of demons and stuff. they think it's evil and that they are controlling things that only God should control. stuff like that. but christains should realize that it's a book and it is fiction and people read for fun and pleasure and know it's not real!

Because it has to do with witches, wizards and magic which are considered evil in the christian religion. So most of the die-hard christians don't read it because of this.
Also, many people think it is childish and think it is too played out. Or they could just not like fantasy or wizardening books. Everyone has different tastes.

I'm wondering that to! It may go against their religion though. I don't mind that, but if they don't like it, don't read it. But honestly, if it's against their beliefs, then it's okay. If it's not and they just hate them, i think, read them then tell me that. I hated them til i was forced to watch the 1st movie, now i will do anything to ghet my hands on the next book.
