If he has any shred of democracy, our new Prime Minister should call an immediate general election, or certainly within 6 months. I think it should be a constitutional convention that a new Prime Minister appointed within a parliament should go to the country within 6 months, otherwise it is not democratic.

Did you vote for Tony Blair to be PM? No... you voted for an MP.
the party with the most MP's chose the PM
so, what's changed??

{i think TB was a useless PM, and GB is going to be the same... but I don't think there is a great choice in any of the parties, at the moment}

This is a difficult one it does seem we are getting a new PM and do not have a say in it . Blaire resigned as leader of the labour party ,the government party, and a successor was elected as the labour leader who are the party in goverment so therefor the PM .It would be undemocratic if the opposition parties could change leaders as and when they liked but not the governing party. We will have to wait and see how it goes with Brown and come the next election make our voice heard then .

Why not JohN McDonnell? Wake up my British friend. McDonnell is of Irish decent. Do think the party wants him in office so that he will unify the northerN six counties with the counties in the South of Ireland? Get it up. Besides, McDonnell has long ties to the IRA back in the 60s and 70s. Why do you think Blair kept him under wraps for so long?

Unless their is a vote of no confidence, Brown chosen by his party can govern the country until he has to call a general election and then we(the people) will decide!

You didn't vote for Blair either, you vote for the party and the seat my good man, not the smile and the suit. Its why it helps to read party policy and so on and not get sucked into the buzz, spin and so on...

Of course, if the barricades are going up I will practise my Les Miserables lines and see if we cant have a good sing song as the nation burns...

Until they change the rules it still stands that an election must tke place every 5 years, so, it's not been 5 years yet, tough luck.
