Everyone thinks its Audie Murphy, actually it was Matt Urban. He won 29 medals for valor in World War II, three more than war hero Audie Murphy. The 1989 Guinness Book of World Records gave the record to Colonel Urban.

Audie L. Murphy, most decorated American combat soldier of World War II who died tragically in an airplane accident in 1971. He received every decoration for valor that this country had to offer plus 5 decorations presented to him by France and Belgium.

i've heard audie murphy was the most decorated ww2 soldier. and yes, he was in movies...in the late 40's, early '50's. a cute guy, too!
